There is something absolutely magical about traveling to a new city, taking in the sights, eating the cuisine, chatting with the locals, and relaxing on beautiful beaches. And you deserve it, you absolutely do, but sometimes it can be difficult to plan out a big vacation.
A staycation is when you choose to stay at home for a vacation. It might sound like a bit of an oxymoron, but the concept has growing in popularity. Instead of stressing out about booking flights and expensive hotel rooms, you can turn your own home into a resort. Here are 10 ideas to create the perfect staycation.
1) Turn your phone off or set it to silent
It’s a vacation! There’s no way to enjoy yourself and relax if you’re checking your phone every few minutes. Turn your cell phone off or set it to silent so you can forget about your troubles.
2) Have food delivered to your door
One of the great luxuries of living in a golden age of technology is that it is really easy to have food delivered to your door. Apps such as Seamless and Grubhub are incredibly user friendly can include thousands of local restaurants.
3) Get a massage chair
One of the many great perks about working at truMedic is that we have sample massage chairs set up and to be perfectly honest, they’re amazing. A massage chair is the next best thing to having your own personal massage therapist.
4) Make a playlist
As we learned from the previous blog post, music is ideal for stress relief. Create a playlist that is designed to create a certain mood or feeling. Choose songs that inspire good feelings and positive energy.
5) Invest in good lighting
Sometimes even a small change can make all the difference from it comes to your mood. Consider investing in a smart LED lightbulb, something that you can easily modify and adjust. Different lighting might be the perfect touch to convert your home into a personal resort.
6) Pick out a special staycation outfit
When you wear clothes that are comfortable, you feel good. The greatest part of a staycation is that it’s not public, so if you want to wear sweatpants and a baggy shirt, go right ahead, there’s no one to judge. If you want to wear a tuxedo, go for it, it’s your staycation.
7) Aroma therapy
Create the perfect mood for your staycation with aroma therapy. Essential oils dispersed by an ultrasonic diffuser create the perfect scents for relaxation and can brighten your mood. I recommend a citrus blend of orange and lemon to charge you up with positive energy.
8) Netflix and Chill
Okay, the expression “Netflix and Chill” has been overused lately, but it’s perfect for a staycation. There are many great streaming services including HBO GO, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon. Relax and watch your favorite TV shows and movies. Grab some popcorn and candy to complete the experience.
By having a staycation, you’re saving yourself money on hotel rooms and travel. Spend some of that money on something that you’ve wanted for a long time. Purchase yourself a new phone, a relaxing neck and back massager, or that new really cool drone you’ve been thinking about.
10) Get creative with it
The sky is the limit. Utilize the resources that you already have at your house or place of dwelling. If you want to relive your childhood and build a fort out of blankets, go right ahead. If you want to build yourself an arcade out of cardboard, that sounds like a lot of fun. If you have a good tip for a staycation, we would love to hear it.
